5 Reasons Autoimmune Strong Works for Your Body
People who live with Autoimmune Disease, Fibromyalgia, Lyme, and other chronic pain disorders often find exercise to be a struggle. I know, because for years, I struggled to find a way to exercise that wouldn't exacerbate my symptoms.
Hi, I'm Andrea. I am a personal trainer, and I live with hashimotos and celiac disease, as well as fibromyalgia. I was tired of trying exercise programs that didn't work for my body. I tried every traditional exercise program out there, but the results would be the same- exhaustion, fatigue and flare-up. Finally, I took matters into my own hands and designed Autoimmune Strong- a workout program designed to be compatible with my immune system.
You see- exercise is tricky for people with immune and inflammatory disorders. Exercise, when done right, can help manage the symptoms of these disorders, decreasing fatigue, increasing energy, improving mood, improving sleep quality, reducing joint pain... and the list goes on. But when we do the wrong kind of exercise, we get the opposite results- our systems go haywire and we feel worse than we did before.
Autoimmune Strong is the right kind of exercise for your body. And here is why:
1. Autoimmune Strong reduces the chance of exercise induced symptom flare up.
Most exercise programs work you too hard, causing inflammation to increase, which then activates the immune system into overdrive, resulting in an exercise induced symptom flare-up. The experience of a flare-up can vary from person to person; often it includes exhaustion, fatigue, brain fog, headaches, body aches, numbness, stiffness, swelling, fevers. But no matter what symptoms you have, we can all agree that flare-ups are never fun for anyone.
Autoimmune Strong is designed to help your body slowly adapt to the stress of exercise, keeping your immune system in check. The program starts with movements that are extremely low intensity, and over time, the intensity builds slowly. This pace is intentional. By slowly building intensity over time, your immune system will have time to adapt to the changes, and won’t be overstimulates, thus protecting you from the dreaded flare-up.
2. Autoimmune Strong focuses on postural stabilization and corrective exercises.
The exercises provided in Autoimmune Strong are designed to help you get strong in the most important ways. With a focus on strength, stability, mobility and flexibility, Autoimmune Strong’s goal is to get your body feeling more capable in everyday situations while reducing back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and knee pain.
The program is divided up into 5 main categories:
- The Core
- The Foot/Ankle
- The Hips/Glutes
- Total Body Mobility
With a focus on combining important stretching and strengthening moves, deep core strength and balance work, the goal is to improve your body's stabilization muscles, making it much easier to do daily activities such as climbing stairs and carrying groceries.
3. Autoimmune Strong is easy to fit into your life.
Those of us living with chronic pain know that any exercise program needs to be short and sweet, otherwise it becomes too difficult to maintain. Autoimmune Strong is designed with that in mind. The Autoimmune Strong exercise videos are designed to be easy to use and incorporate into your life.
The Autoimmune Strong instructional videos take the guesswork out of exercise. Instead of showing you the moves and expecting you to copy them, I provide detailed video instructions that help you learn the moves correctly. Then, when you feel you have mastered the moves, you can proceed to the workout video. The videos are short (10-15 minutes long), require little to no equipment, and can be done in the comfort of your own home.
4. Autoimmune Strong is self-paced, so you can go through the program at your own pace, depending on your body’s needs.
Autoimmune Strong is designed to let you set the pace. You determine how many times you want to practice the moves before you move on to the next. You decide when to learn a new exercise or proceed directly to a workout video. You decide how many rest days your body needs. This way, you can listen to your body and give it the exercise it needs, depending on how you are feeling each day.
5. Autoimmune Strong has a built-in system of community support.
It is important to know that you are not alone! Millions of people suffer from the effects of autoimmune disease, fibromyalgia, and types of chronic pain. With Autoimmune Strong, you get a guide who has been through it, who understands what you are going through. Additionally, you gain access to the Autoimmune Strong community, filled with other people who can understand and relate to your experience.
And if you are looking for a deeper level of support and motivation, there is the small group coaching option! Starting April 28th, you get to go through the Autoimmune Strong program alongside other members, in a specially guided program led by me!
So, you might be thinking- this all sounds good, but is Autoimmune Strong right for me?
And the answer is YES!
